ok
let's rename the server... which needs to be decided
the tail shrink is set to 0.5... which needs to be decided
and see if we can contribute a little more
to getting a better connection
so that it can handle 16 (+1) players smoothly

can this be done
luke?
can it be upgraded?

Well, I just sent away an order for a Hetzner root server DS3000, which I plan to use for various things.
CT's arma servers are hosted by the same provider, but their server's actually two notches lower than mine, it isn't offered to new customers anymore. It'll have unlimited traffic, so I'll try setting up a fortress server there, if you want even with a 32 player limit.
There's no place like ::1

There was some weird lag on 2020s server today, havent seen it before but other players said they had it too, bikes seemed to 'stop' for a while.

I recorded for two rounds.

just out of interest, z-man: what were the specs of the server you used to run bugfarm on, i.e. cpu type and speed, memory size, internet connection and available bandwidth?

It's some 3000ish AMD 64 with 1 Gig of RAM. I don't know what the total available bandwidth of the university is, but I'd figure it is lots :)

sounds gooooood
i can't think of a better person to host it...
we are getting close to the point where we can cry BUG!
and someone actually can do something about it

actually
apart from people moaning about tails and ping and lag
seems to me
the game is pretty solid...
is that right?

So, where will be hosted the main fortress server?
And where the server for developers and newbies?

Already hosting it, assuming 2020 still wants his to be the "main fortress server" ;p

Wouldn't it be best if the developer server was the main one, and keep the newbies somewhere safe? Newbies don't know a bug when they see them...

Edit: or perhaps have 3 of these servers: pros, newbs, and test/devel

well, the server seems to be experiencing some very weird lag, on a good day it can hold 12-13 players without too much lag, at a push. just now there was 9 of us in there and for me it was borderline unplayable. highest ping was 220.

any particular reason as to why it seems to get very laggy very quickly?

He's right. I've played there a couple of times lately and it's become too laggy/slidey to enjoy it. Everyone else there experiences it too.
If I were 2020 I would think about getting my money back.

about fortress players and developers:
a server for experienced fortress players and developers should be fine.
in this case developers should set the server as well as possible to play good. we understood that a server cannot be perfect, but surely 2020's needs to be tested and setted up. untill someone else will show up with another server for this project or a new idea, we can start to work in 2020's and declare it the main fortress server, if all agrees.
BUT, and there is a "but", isnt there any other ideas really?
Anyway, thinking about the topic "Respect in Tron?", I think we could solve problems between newbies and "pros" just setting TALK_TO_MASTER 0 and giving fortress players the host and the port.

about newbies:
I'll talk with other °°ps members, probably i could dedicate °°ps arena for newbies, with training sessions and maybe different maps. That changing the name of the server and with no reference to the clan.
as I said, I must talk with my clan mates first.
