Wrtl's servers

For things that have to do with those crazy test servers... and yeah. By request of z-man, and, of course, you gotta obey...

I'll decide on a name and put a seperate server online, I guess that's the best thing.

Are there any plans for any server statistics for your servers?

It wouldn't be hard to make them available. Just, what's the point? They don't tell you anything about the players, just how often they played. And the ladder is useless, too.
The only stats I have, though that may not be exactly what you want: http://wrtlprnft.ath.cx/serverlist/play ... Caf%3f.png

I dunno, I agree the ladder seems completely pointless, just seems interesting now and again to see who is top or to see how you fare against other players (or to see how much of an addict you are ;))

And I cant get that link to work. All it says is "Error parsing xml data"

Inspired by FTS, I made a tiny change to the score settings on café. You only get six points for winning a round, but you get four points for conquering a zone. That means normal wins by conquering the enemy zone still give you ten points, but if a defender wins by killing all enemies his/her team will get less points than if (s)he had attacked and conquered the zone.

It also has an effect if both teams conquer each other's zones at almost the same time. Now one team gets ten points, the other gets four.

I might change it even more to SCORE_WIN 4 and FORTRESS_CONQUERED_SCORE 6, and reenabling the winzone. The attacker now has a real reason not to take it but attack, as 10 (possibly even 12 if you kill the defender) > 4.

Feedback is welcome, as always.

How about limiting it to 14 or 16 players? It gets mighty crowded (and laggy) when you're playing 10+ aside.
I believe 7-8 aside creates far more intimate games where new players learn more easily.
When a server full of half decent players with fair teams is on the grid, this is when the best battles commence. This is not possible in it's current state.

I think this is the main reason fortress cafe doesn't have the same popularity Bugfarm Fortress had in it's heyday.

oh, and I like the new points scheme

Could you please remove shuffle up, it's starting to get annoying.

interesting comment
ed
and i think you are right...
and by limiting it to 16
it may encourage players to use another fortress server...
then you've got the popular server where all the best players go
and a second one which might be easier for newer players

as for points change
sounds reasonable
though does that mean
with 2v2 situation and 1v1 around each zone
if your def dies
then you should suicide?
hold the line

Maz: Noticed that, some people shuffled up for no reason. I've disabled it.
ed, 2020: The limit has been ten per side for quite some time now. One of the reasons I made this server is because I wanted to have a server for large games… I decreased the limit to nine, which is at least uneven (so there's the same number of players on each side of the centre player). I might decrease it more, let's see how many complaints I get…
2020: No, if the remaining attacker suicides he'll most likely give away two points to the other team, and if the attacker is any good he'll probably still conquer the zone (you can do that after the round winner message popped up), earning another four points. Plus (s)he gives away his/her chance to possibly kill the attacker and still conquer the zone :)

i think the main reason is that people is more interested to personal recognitions than team play. indeed, as i posted in FTS topic, the attention is mostly directed to "personal scoring" than general one or other possible settings for fortress. 90% feedbacks were about negative scores of each player. it seems like nobody cares about team score or team play. is there anybody that still like team game?
