Heh. Sorry, at the time I posted that, it looked like this thread was degenerating at the same rate as another thread that was going at the same time. Unlike that one, this one pulled out and became useful. ;)

That's quite the opposite. No signal came from my speakers, but I suppose there was still a bit of noise, so signal/noise is 0. Once I typed

Code: Select all

cat /dev/random
my terminal 'ringed' (but the modern version) like crazy, increasing the SNR.

Edit: waited too long before posting.

It's apparently a law of mathematics or something that you must have noise. Because if you have no noise, but plenty of signal, then you have division by zero. Or maybe it's that a thread with lots of signal and no noise would just be undefined?

Luckily, we have Jonathan making sure we never run out of noise. 8)

It's physics :) Condensed form: Noise is entropy. Entropy is temperature. Zero noise == zero entropy == absolute zero temperature. It's one of the laws of thermodynamics that you can't get there.
Who wants to take the challenge and apply thermodynamics to the human mind? :)
Whoops, did it again. The universe is one step closer to heat death.
