new beta release 2.8.0

Post by antix »

I'm trying out the new beta, game seems to run great, smoother then 2.7.x
but, the server isn't showing up in the master list.

I thought it may just take some time, so I let it go all day.

any suggestions? or is it a bug.

thanx for those links swampy, too bad they are talking about router/firewall configuration, (not behind a router, I also stopped iptables aswell)

However the one link mentioned this file: frommaster.srv
so I'm going to check that

Thanx again dude

damn, I don't have that file, on neither the 2.7.1 or the 2.8.0 server
the 2.7.1 server shows up in the list though.

I guess that file isn't used in 2.7 and later.

Well, we have now learned you are using Linux, so that's a plus. What other little tid-bits of info are you willing to share? :P

lol, well said.

Ok its running fedora core 3, athlon xp server.
gcc 3.4 I believe (this doesn't make much difference though, I installed the rpm)

the 2.7.1 server that runs fine, is running on redhat 9 (I haven't tried running the 2.8 on that server yet)

And, I'm going to try running it on my gentoo machine for testing aswell.

thanx tank, yeah its set to 1 in the config file, however in the server console, I had to set to 1 again, because it was 0

hmm, but odd, after 10 minutes, the server still isn't listed, after manualy setting TALK_TO_MASTER to 1

TALK_TO_MASTER is only ever evaluated at the program start and AA does not react to changes in the config file directly; you have to make the setting (in /etc/armagetronad-dedicated/settings_dedicated.cfg, maybe you got the client's configuration where it is of little use) and restart the server.

Then there is the old issue I found we can't do much about: you don't see a server on your LAN on the internet list because packets from such a server to you client appear to come from the wrong address. You need to set
SERVER_IP <external IP>
in settings_dedicated.cfg to fix that.

edit:

actualy I have the cfg's in ~/.armagetron/

I just looked at the cfg in the etc directory, and talk to master was set to 0

yeah thats all it took, thanx again z-man

now I just have to make it so that the custom cfg files will work in the ~/.armagetron directory, and make it so that /etc/ cfg files are just default

edit: yeah I just added the --configdir and --vardir to the command line

perfect, btw I notice 2.8 runs much more solid then 2.7.1 :)

You can put all your local changes into ~/.armagetronad/var/autoexec.cfg.

Lucifer prepared an alternative: put your changes to gameplay settings into /etc/armagetronad-dedicated/settings_custom.cfg and the server's ninfo (name, port, IP) into /etc/armagetronad-dedicated/server_info.cfg. Both files get included by settings_dedicated.cfg and won't be overwritten by updates.

yeah thats what I had before, ~/.armagetronad/var/autoexec.cfg

but I guess it didn't work, I knew I had to set the --vardir because the highscore.txt file wasn't being updated.

just minor.

Oh, sorry. It's now all in
~/.armagetronad-dedicated/var/
I forgot we changed that (it makes sense to have server and client conf separate). You can put the two Lucifer-style .cfgs there, too.
