Tethered/dongled and big hiccups SOLVED

Post by delinquent »

Since I had to gravitate to mobile broadband for th eduration, I've noticed that I get some pretty big hiccups from servers 1 and 2. I was on Three, who have outstanding ping times (for mbi networks) but poor signal quality in many areas, and I have now gravitated to an 02 subnetwork (giffgaff) who have reasonable ping times and decent coverage. However, I still notice hiccups of between 12 and 50 seconds when first connecting, is this a network issue? I heard that some USb dongles have internal quartz clocks, accurised by the internet provider, could lag be causing this or is it down to my pc? Admittedly, my computer has been pretty much built out of spare parts...

The hiccups happen because the server browser has to do a lot of DNS resolving. No way around that on 0.2.8, on 0.4 we run them in the background.
Dunno why master3 doesn't work for you, it's perfectly reachable from here.

Hm. So it's most likely the latency and low speed of running tethered that has so drastically increased them?
Oh, since all the fbi involvment with the internet, quite a few ip addresses have been blocked in the uk, and we get instead, a "picture" of the webpage. Seeing as the server isn't quite a website, I'm not surprised it isn't working. Only found this out this morning. Damn british intelligence....

master3 may be blocking you due to too many packets be sent as it waits for a response.
