that's the best one i could find. the sound can be heard somewhere around 3.15 (but there are more lightcycle levels of course)
edit: Z-Man you should watch the bit at 7.05 (cycles can collide frontally :o )

If that's a feature request, CYCLE_WIDTH.

Thanks. But that's how I grabbed the old sample, though not from that video but from the MAME emulation of the TRON game. The problem is, the explosion is mixed with the cycle engine. I used a notch filter to punch it out for the moviepack, but that takes all the bite out of it. The proper way would be to take a sample of the cycle engine, invert it, then lay it over the explosion sample to remove the engine using phase cancellation. I just don't have to tools right now to do that. I'll see if I can come up with something later today.

EDIT: I was able grab an explosion without an engine, but it had music over the top. There was enough material for me to loop it with minimal modulation. I'll try my first idea another time.

I just got lucky. Maybe the first time I attempted to grab samples I assumed the signal was in mono. I just did a stereo grab of the ROM sounds and found a perfectly clean explosion right there on the left channel. I also discovered there were two regular explosions and a final, longer explosion to end the level. The sample I posted just above this is the longer one. Attached are the regular ones.

I feel so much better now that I have these.

Do you have them all? I bet if I looked around I could have found them. Then I wouldn't get the "joy" of doing it myself?

No, I don't anymore. But it wouldn't take very long to get them again. But if YOU want to do it yourself, you should go here....

I've posted about this before. It's the BridgeM1 Player. All you do is load up a MAME ROM and you can play all the sound FX and music from the ROM. You can also record wav files in pristine quality. A must have! :)

:o No Way! Thanks man. There are some other games I'd like to rob, like Bezerk and Bosconian.

Below in an update to the custom AI for this game.

I got inspired to tweak the settings after the local barcade got a Tron stand-up. The machine is wrecked. Tons of play in the joystick (it's actually cracked, I checked) and the top panel isn't securely bolted down. It so rickety I can't get past level 3. Still, I got the high score. In a few minutes I'm gonna go over there and see if anyone beat it.

The tweaked AI are tougher, but still super easy to defeat. There just isn't a way to fully capture the spirit of the original arcade game. Still fun though!

I know how to make lethal ai, it involves a bit of variable grabbing though.

Please share! I would rather play against AI than most of the players here. The AI don't talk.

The only way I know how to do it requires me to memory walk, and if that becomes the norm, cheating like a ridiculous asshole is moments away. Im too lazy to learn thier broke ass api, its far easier to just watch the ram and work from that.

Thier XML plan makes me giggle. I wish it didnt. but its so obviously retarded.
The ability to edit it in text was there years before that useless plan. They did for the sty patches they wont mainline.

It makes me giggle.
