I wouldn't mind using 3.0 but my problem is;
I use these settings;
Font: Bilinear
Object Textures: Off
Wall Textures: Off
Floor Textures: Off
TrueColor Textures: Off
Persp. Correction: System Default
Smooth Shading: Off
Alpha Blending: Off
Line Anti-Aliasing: System Default
Polygon Anti-Aliasing: System Default
Floor Detail: Dual Texture Plane
Dithering: Off
Floor Mirror: Off
In 2.8 it looks like this (I prefer this one)
Although in 3.0 it looks like:
• Why is the Ground a different color
- How can I change it?
• Why are the MiniMap and Clock those ugly colors?
- How can I change it?
---
Those seem to be my problems!

Turn on alpha blending.
EDIT: I found this, don't know whether this is the same problem as you have

Re: Minimal - 2.8 compared to 3.0
My assumption is the floor color is due to the following settings having been changed in 0.3:
FLOOR_RED
FLOOR_GREEN
FLOOR_BLUE
If you prefer the dark grey (the default in 0.2.8.3.1), then you'll want to set each of those to a value of 0.2 (the default in 0.2.8.3.1). To make that permanent, type it up in a plain text file you create called autoexec.cfg, which you'll place in your personal var directory/folder.
Or, if you want a black floor, ignore all that and just turn off the "floor texture" (you'll pick up some framerate too). That's how I play.
Also, note that if you want to get more minimalist with your view, you can turn off a lot of those HUD items.

If you don't like the cockpit, you can use a different one in 0.3: http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php? ... kpits_list
