Couldn't set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual

Post by pulpfiction » Tue Jul 13, 2004 5:14 pm

Hello people.

After I heard Armagetron plays better on Linux I've decided to give it a try, even though I'm not a Linux expert at all. I have it installed here on my computer just for tests and programming purposes, I don't mess much with it. Anyway, after a hard time getting the libSDL to work, I got this message while trying to run Armagetron:

Error in bool sr_InitDisplay() in rScreen.cpp:566 :

Sorry, played all my cards trying to initialize your video system.
Armagetron won't run on your computer. Reason:

Couldn't set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual

I'll try again from the beginning, but the chances of success are minimal.

Well, I have a nVIDIA GeForce 2 400 MX videocard (64mb) and my screen is a LG 775FT. My CPU is Pentium 4 1800mhz, 256mb DDR. I'm running under Slackware distribution. I don't know if this would help, but here are some lines extracted from my XF86Config file:

Section "Device"
Identifier "NVIDIA400MX"
Driver "nv"
#VideoRam 65536
# Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen 1"
Device "NVIDIA400MX"
Monitor "LG775FT"
DefaultDepth 24

Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection

Does anyone have any suggestion for me to get this game running on my box?

Thank you very much.

nvidia readme wrote:In the Module section, make sure you have:

Load "glx"

You should also remove the following lines:

Load "dri"
Load "GLcore"
This readme is available at http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linu ... README.txt Basically it means you don't have any 3D acceleration yet. That error message is actually being outputted by the driver there, not Armagetron. Try that, I believe it will fix your issue.

you are running the 'nv' driver which does not support 3d acceleration. if you are on x86 or x86_64 (that would be slamd64) use nvidia.com proprietary drivers, if not, you've got a problem.
