Tron Legacy Edition of Armagetron

Post by zandm7 »

Don't you guys think there ought to be an open source alternative to Tron: Evolution? I think so, anyways. The Armagetron developers and coders should totally make a Tron Legacy edition of Armagetron, or at least offer some Tron Legacy game modes, such as races and deathmatch where the light cycles aren't bound to angles when they turn. It would be so cool! Just saying. Haha what do all you guys think of this?

The turning can be simulated using a high value for arena_axes, and racing modes exist already.

I know that, but there aren't any popular deathmatch/free for all servers with a high setting on arena_axes. Plus, there are few servers with the value high enough to actually simulate the type of turning possible in Tron: Evolution. I'm just saying that Armagetron should encourage higher values on arena_axes for a more Tron: Legacy type feel.

Besides the obvious copyright issues, lightcycles shouldn't be turning like that, anyway.

Go play Pink Poney or Swear or something.

I'll say my usual thing. Netcode and collision detection engine code are optimized for sharp turns. They'd be total crap at smooth turning. Smooth turning would require tons of all new code, and while you're writing that, you can write an all new game.

I tried this a while back :pacman: :sdot: :sdot: :sdot: :sdot:

Still think it would be a cool feature.

The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Haha, I obviously see where Z is coming from on this. The legacy version of light cycles is a completely different game that would require years of work. Having said that, it looks like it would be a fun game. So if anyone would like to program it................. :)

Really? The stuff I've read is that they've worked it to be primarily multiplayer, with single player more as a training ground.

It would be totally ironic if they didn't make whatever Tron Legacy game they produce open source.
