The no point(as in score) hole

Post by Your_mom »

I recently stumbled upon a ladle shoutcast when i heard mention of the "pointless hole". I think sine credited epsy for the discovery. After some parallel thinking, i thought up roughly how it would work and hopped on irc.
irc wrote:Your_mom: is the no point hole a deliberate tk right next the opponents defence? ; just heard about it
liz_: holer stays away from enemy tail for at least 30secs, friendly player grind enemy def, holer suicides on it, voila suicide/tk-hole
Thought I'd post to get some ideas flowing. Also to help spread this tactic.

I don't think people are happy with this tactic, unless they are using it themselves. GCEA were overwhoring it big time this ladle, and we got lots of negative responses on it. Not sure why, its actually pretty hard to execute with lots of sweepers, and its a great tactic. Epsy taught me and olive how to do it so all credit goes to him, yep.

The no point hole is not common yet, but it's been popping up for a few months now. It seems like teams are starting to prepare for any kind of hole. But I think the no point hole is easier to spot since it takes a little bit to set up (and they still lose a man by doing it). If a team has the chance to set up a no point hole and the defense isn't ready, well done! No negativity required :D

Me and Liz execute the no point hole technique almost perfectly...it takes us about 3 seconds to set up die and enter the opponent's zone...the hard part is not killing urself cuz of the other teams sweepers and dieing at the right time...dieing right in front of the defender will get both players killed.

It's KIND OF obvious you shouldn't hole right in front of the defender :)) (unless you're just torping in front of him and you know your shit)

it's KIND OF obvious that right in front of the defender would be the theoretically ideal place to torp...unless he knows it's coming

i always try to get people to hole right infront of the defender.

I executed this and it worked plenty of times. 2 people grind, Player 1 holes right infront of defender (both players should be grinding close to eachother) Player 2 then kills defender and walks away like nothing happend

Its actually a pretty irrelevant tactic.
Your opponents score is irrelevant as long as it is below your own. Whether you give the opponents two points or not, holing gains you the same amount of points. Better to kill the opponent's defense and take the zone.

Not if you do it when you're at 90-98. Which is what happened.

I think we had 92 (or 94?). We could have won using a normal hole—assuming we then quickly conquered the zone. Still, it's a good strategy not to give your opponents points. I've lost a few close Ladle matches where a normal holing technique was used, and the outcome might have been different if we hadn't given them free points.
