Turn on prediction by default
I know some people prefer having prediction off, but for the sake of noob-friendlyness, I suggest turning it on by default.
It makes jumps more apparent but it prevents them from wondering why the heck would someone kill them by going through their tail and thinking about hax, ragequitting and whatnot. Anyway anyone that already played a game online will avoid high-pinged servers, so that shouldn't be too much of an issue.
I'd propose it for 0.3.2.
PS: For the poll, please only consider play time, as opposed to spectating time.

Well, it seems like the overwhelming majority of players don't play with prediction on, or don't use it. There are definitely more jumps when I use it which makes playing with 200 ping even harder than normal, but it's the only thing that saves me from those "wtf hax" kills.
But, since the majority (or so it seems) of players don't use it, I'm not quite sure why we should turn it on by default. Also, since a lot of people don't even know what it is, they might be confused and not know how to turn it back off.
I'm not going to vote yet, but I'm leaning towards no.

I said no, but only because it was a gut reaction. I probably shouldn't have voted because this is kind of a toss-up for me. I constantly toggle prediction on/off, even during matches. It's kind of a pain and I wish I could be happy with just one.
A lot of people aren't familiar with prediction. I've tried to strike up conversations about it in-game and, of those who know what it is, I get a widely mixed reaction. The biggest complaint is that it's quite jarring to see the cycles jumping around. A lot of the people I talk to prefer the smoother graphics and leave prediction off, and just watch the lag-o-meter instead.
I'd almost rather see "predict objects" under the player settings menu so people will encounter it sooner and think "oh, what is this?" Then they can make their own decision. But, that would be the wrong place for it.
It's a really tough question IMO.

I always prefer prediction ON. It is harder at first, as Durka says, but when you play a little is better and you dont realize about the jumps.
But by default?
When I entered to play this, if I had seen the jumps I have with prediction ON when I have high ping, I would have stopped of playing.
Can we switch fastly prediction ON/OFF while playing?
I dont know.

Re: Turn on prediction by default
Or at least have it in the key binding menu as unbound much like spectator is when you first download the client.Puuquie wrote: Ty sine.wtf
It would be nice if you can put a key for an automatic switching.

Yeah, and deal with the complaint that our menus are too complicated.
Re: Turn on prediction by default
I like close-combat when It comes to DF and CTF and with prediction on, that just cant happen. Ive used it and its terrible for any low cycle_delay game mode.

Re: Turn on prediction by default
I Just hated it when i used it before maybe a year of so ago. never wanted to mess with that setting again. It jumped and slid and make it look terrible to me. I was better at predicting my own slide then letting it do the predicting. Unless it had changed in the last year or so, I stick with no.

Use the new toggle command I committed to trunk:Puuquie wrote:Ty sine.wtfsinewav wrote:Bind two instant chats with /console predict_objects 1,0.Puuquie wrote:Can we switch fastly prediction ON/OFF while playing?
