tron school

Post by 2020 »

after two full terms and two weeks
got the game put on the school server
and introduced the game to a few classes

the response
was
amazing

kids screaming out with excitement

had an entire class of year 7's play
28 of them
boys and girls
all wanting to play
and we had to have two grids running simultaneously

i have a cope group
which means a small class of 11 who can not cope with standard education
at first they were off-hand and reluctant to play
and then they were screaming with excitement
and everybody wanted onto the grid to play

set up an after-school club in the first week
and it is full
and i started telling them about grinding centre
and they have started to get the idea
since that simple teamworking technique
results in a superior split
and confers a sizeable advantage to one side

the first lesson in teamwork

so
thanks
on behalf of the kids i have introduced the game to
thanks to
all the players who make this game
the extended development team
and the triumvirate

you might find some new blood appearing on the grid sometime...

I take it you are running lan games? Are you a teacher? I quite confident that this will help develop communication skills and team work as you said. I wish you luck with your endeavour.

I hope you didn't teach them how to use the "enter" key.
Homer: Uh...it's like...did anyone see the movie "Tron"?
Dr. Hibbert: No.
Lisa: No.
Marge: No.
Wiggum: No.
Bart: No.
Patty: No.
Wiggum: No.
Ned: No.
Selma: No.
Prof. Frink: No.
Rev. Lovejoy: No.
Wiggum: Yes. I mean -- um, I mean, no. No, heh.

heheh
yeah
better than book work
or even most computer work...
teamwork is not on the agenda
not in schools
not even here on arma

interestingly
the steep learning curve which accounts for the slow intake of new fortress players
happens to be ideal when presenting the game to a group in person
since the initial grind proves teamwork works

a new learning point for me :)

they are 11 to 16
one kid actually has heard of the film

funnily enough
i don't notice much petty-mindedness with kids...
must be a trait of adults...
some function of age...

hehe
yeah
it has been tricky to get one it bod to stick it on the school server
and now the hard part has begun
with complaints from teachers

either we will lock it down
which is ok but a bit of a waste
or
the kids learn a bit of self-discipline
which is the objective of introducing it into school...

and if it works in one school
and the teachers see the benefit too
then...
well...

well...
i guess another school might set it up
and then there might be inter-school competitions...

but my guess is
you are not asking in a positive
oh-i-wonder-what-you-think-might-happen
kind of way
but in a more...
well
i will probably leave the alternative to Phytotron
since he seems to have a way with words...
