Heinz, it's a better OS and unless you've updated your drivers on w98 they are better as well.
if you can run linux on your hardware you'll probably see a bigger increase.
i'll post a topic on that later (or maybe after i've checked any remaining new posts), i'd like someone to make a minimalist linux for playing armagetron only.... maybe it's a bad idea (i know i wont have the time)

Since windows xp has been installed less then a year, there are less applications installed, in short, it is a cleaner version. I'm almost sure that if you installed win98 on a new drive in that system, and only installed the drivers for 3d and sound that the fps would be much better... Anyway... I think so...
