Tigers Network: Goin 0.2.7.1?

Post by Tank Program »

I've put up a 0.2.7.1 server running the Classic Play settings under the name, funnily, enough, of Tigers Network Classic Play 0.2.7.1 Test. Original, I know. I'm establishing this thread for feedback purposes & what not, so if anyone has any comments on how 0.2.7.1 vs 0.2.6.0-2b effects the gameplay with the current settings, let me know here, and I'll try and sort it out so that it's as close to 0.2.6.0-2b as possible.

(FYI, 0.2.6.0-2b is what became what we now fondly know as 0.2.7.0, or Armagetron Advanced.)

something is wrong with that server

just before the start of each round (black screen) i can hear the sound that bikes make when they turn, 1 for each player ie 8 players I hear 8 turning sounds !

then when the round finally starts my camera is in the midding of the arena pointing towards my own bike facing the wrong direction so when I start I see my bike driving towards my own screen and have to wait for it to turn

then theres the problem with the ping, at the start of every round my ping doubles and I see many invisiwalls for at least 4 or 5 seconds (lost packets) before my ping returns to normal and the walls re-appear

ive seen this problem with 1 other server only (wish I could remember what it was called)

what is the problem here ?

ive played on armagetron.org.es which also runs 0.2.7.1 and these problems do not happen

It may just be the connection to the server. The 0.2.7.1 server is in a different physical location than the others...

On 0.2.7.1 you can get a huge speed more easly and quickly and this difference is very noticable when it comes to a fight between an old player and someone, who started playing at 0271 or someone who spoted this new 'stuff'.

I hope, you can understand me. :?

So people can speed up on walls faster than before?

Yes, space is not needed, you can make box by griding at the first time

start>--------------------------->--------->---------->------->--------->------|
<end[50-80speed]------<-------------------grid----------<-----| |
|------->-grid---------------->---------------------| |
|-----------<------grid-------<--------------<-------------| |
|------>--------------->-------grid----->--------------->-------| |
|-------------<-------<----grid---<--------<----------<-------<----|

Can you do this on 2.7.0? It's impossible or mayby I'm to weak. ;-)

My comments to the server:
simply wonderful! :D
As said before, speadup is easier since you can do LOTS of 180-turns on one wall.
Also, you can still change directions when you would normally be dead because you ran
into a wall.
This drastically changes the gameplay (in my opinion). I personally prefer it, but others
might not, so you should maybe create a poll or something to deside whether to keep
the old server.
And.... I think that was all I wanted to say... :wink:

I sort of like the 0.2.7.1 server better myself, but that may just be because I ping better to that one...

It's a tank batlle games where most servers have bots (tank programmes :wink: )
