+1

(Except I haven't expressed it here before, so the "still" doesn't officially apply to me.)

This is an amazing idea, Phytothron. I really hope the mods will do something with this!

Oh please mods, I hope you give no real consideration to this "delete button" idea. Can you envision the post/delete wars that would erupt? Deleting posts is a mod/admin function for a good reason.

On the subject of deleting posts. I will delete posts that are double posts, and sometimes by request as well.

No, I can't envision how that would happen. Only you would have the ability to delete your own post. No one could delete anyone else's post. (You really think I, of all people, would suggest allowing members to delete other members' posts?) And as I mentioned, it would only be possible if yours was the last/most recent post. You wouldn't be able to arbitrarily delete any post you want. Once someone else posts (and, I think, even if they delete that post), every post before it becomes permanent. I don't know if there's any expiration date after which one could no longer delete the post, but it makes sense to me that there would be.

This option is available on the only other forum with which I've been involved (which apparently uses the same format or whatever as this one), and it works quite well. I never saw any problems erupt from it. Granted, this particular forum was almost exclusively adults, and didn't have any webkidz internet culture hijinx going on. No trolling, flamewars, etc. Still, never noticed any snags other than the occasional case of someone wondering where a post they had read went.

I don't see how it's any worse than editing your own posts—in fact, less so since it's so limited.
