Could it be that there is a proxy on your network, and that the browsers are either configured or are able to retreive the sufficient information to use them.

For the release, we may have to only allow the optimizations to be active with drivers we know to be working. That means if you don't give your "it's working" report, you won't get the full graphics performance in the final release. Could be better to make a new thread just to collect tha...
