THIS KICKS ASS
Not meaning to toot my own horn or anything, but this I tested on the grid and I think I'm wanting to pursue this for actual ingame music. Anyone want to take a poke at it? I just fired up soundtracker and hit play and then played the game, AA is friendly with the soundcard like that. You might need...

Nope, just any one. If it faill, it pass to another. Dont make every client and game server have to connect to every master. One is enough. Let have all the master chit-chat toghether. But yes for the rest. Only issue here is that new master servers need to be able to get info from manuel's server....

If you are convinced that this method would reduce lag on the serverm that may be. But what about the poor sucker that gets stuck hosting all the chat? Technically wouldn't lag dubble, tripple, or quadrupple for him? I don't think that would be fair. And in general I don't think people would like t...

Did I understand right, you want a meta-master-server, a master-master-server? Yeah, something more like a php script that you retrieve through http, and you get a list of current known master servers. The problem with the existing master server is that manuel might at any time take it down without...

We should really think of Armagetron Advanced as a team. The original copyright has sense because only one coder did the majority of the code. There is wisdom to this. ;) The only time it really matters from a practical standpoint is when it's someone who doesn't regularly contribute. Then you need...

In my arrogant opinion, I'd suggest a webpage for the root master server. That way, you can have it hosted by someone like sourceforge, who doesn't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon, and be pretty much certain it'll always be there, even if the project gets abandoned, or the person hosting th...

From the GPL (Section 2a): You must cause the modified files to carry prominent notices stating that you changed the files and the date of any change. So, yes, you must put your name in there. It's actually a personal choice, and I don't knwo about you guys, but I personally put my name all over eve...

Second, can chat be turned into P2P, instead of being routed through the server? Is it already P2P? To do this as p2p people would have to have an open port to play Armagetron- something a larger number of people are not in favor of. Hmm, large numbers wouldn't have to. The system could work like t...

i started sinfest once before and got bored, but i'll give it another go. maybe i was in a weird mood. the art is clearly very good and the strips seem very clever so far... Sinfest comes and goes. Like any daily strip, there are long periods of relative boredom. I'm just about sick of the cat and ...

I'll chime in here. I'm an old school programmer, am not familiar with C, nor am I familiar with programming for network communication. The last *big thing* I wrote were a couple of applications for Macs around 8 years ago. Since then I've been more of a script hacker, and mostly for linux, using B...

To add to what ish said, and what I've said already ;) With 8 players on Breakfast of Demons, armagetronad-dedicated uses 5MB of memory and 38% CPU on 800mhz Duron, 256MB DDR RAM (133mhz front bus), Mandrake 10 (Linux 2.6.3), KDE 3.2, full desktop. Edit: With only 2 players, armagetronad-dedicated i...

hehe, i read slowly because i like to forget as much as possible so that when i re-read it's still somewhat 'fresh'... what is SINFEST? is it linked from hard's site? I followed sinfest off of slashdot's front page, actually. It's http://sinfest.net/ . Also hosted by those keen guys. You should sta...

HARD is super-busy with RL i think. gonna haveto re-read the archive for the 3rd time, soon... :D Sexylosers is awesome. Read Sinfest, by any chance? Not nearly as graphic as sexylosers, but ...
