Re: Couple of PSAs
I'm sorry to hear that. At the same time it's nice to see what science has done; even 'healthy' people haven't always had such a life expectancy. You have the right attitude. Best of luck to the three of you. Knows all the planets up to Saturn and many letters already, too. If you're going to includ...

Re: Multithreading - Script Improvement (ie. Happy Fun Time)
If they try to write to the same variable at the same time, or close to, would there be a problem? Seems like it would be unlikely, but I'm not quite sure. You will be in hell. Hell on Earth. Now, I got a question. With your method, it seems as if it just gets stored in an array and waits. Now, if ...

Re: The Map Plane
for what z-man was saying, I think he meant that you can make your wall end at point 34.3434343434 but say you wanted it at 3434343434.3434343434, from what i understood, it changes to the same significant digits ex: 3434343434.34 (not as accurate), and eventually it would be a whole number, not a ...

Re: Neat hearing test
More déjà vu. CRT TVs (close to 16 kHz) back when they were common ;) Nowadays I hardly come across them anymore. Where they still exist they often aren't your primitive 50/60 Hz interlaced CRT, either. Next thing to eliminate would be squealing vacuum cleaners. Not as high-pitched but can be obnoxi...

Re: Neat hearing test
Oh yeah! I never thought about TV's. Great point Jonathan. I used to wonder why some people told me I was crazy when I asked them if they could hear the "scream" sound of a TV when it was turned on... This can make for a fun little argument. Many people are in denial about the concept tha...

Re: Cycling
I fell headfirst onto a sharp/jagged rock, the helmet was in pieces afterwards and there was a deep gouge in the polystyrene type bit. I was able to get back on and keep riding, I would have been unconscious or worse without it. Ah. Helmets do indeed protect against cuts (as would a leather cap). B...

Re: Neat hearing test
I managed to hear all the way up to 22 kHz. I also replicated it with a 22 kHz sine wave of my own, using a 96 kHz sampling rate just to make things a little cleaner. I didn't know I could do that! But then I was the kid who was bothered by CRT TVs (close to 16 kHz) back when they were common. I onl...

[…] one of those "flimsy" helmets pretty much saved my life, or at least saved me a pretty severe head injury. It was in pieces after the impact but I walked away with just a nosebleed.. I used to wonder how effective they actually were until I needed one. :) Non sequitur. Where are your ...

Re: Cycling
Bike boxes are considered a last resort around here. They don't seem to be too effective, either. But anything that legitimizes your place on the road should help a little, even if just to sneak into the mindset over time. See where it leads you. I'm pretty sure those Monkey Lights aren't really leg...

Re: Random videos thread
So, I've been familiar with circuit bending for a long time. (I betcha sinewav has, too. Lucifer?) I was also aware of cartridge tilting with video games. But I didn't know this was a thing: N64 Corruption Guide Zelda: Ocarina of Death (Corruptions) Super Mario 64: ROM Corruption Although I hadn't ...

Re: Quit your bitching
Of course there can be reasons to quote the post above you. If I believe it's of benefit I'll do it. Maybe even the entire thing. Well, several things. Those forums use vBulletin, and when you quote a post, there's a link embedded in the quote to the original post. I think when you have technology d...

Re: Quit your bitching
I don't generally quote the person directly above me. Exceptions are if I respond something specific, or if I get to snatch a page break from Phytotron. You know, unlike email (sans threaded view), your context is right there . When I reply to a thread without quoting anyone, that means I believe I'...
Re: Strategy?
I suspect it's a sneaky way to gain presence. A bit of nonsense seems harmless, right? Then, when nobody is looking here anymore, they edit in the spam ("SEO"). That's my hypothesis, anyway, because I haven't really studied them.

Re: What if?
I do want to point out that there is a global warming case that could affect manufacturing so badly that these advances in energy research may not be possible to supply logistically, which would mean research that could save us sitting in labs while people riot all around. That's the thing that wor...

If any one thing would help it's quality education. So many bad things subsist on malignant ignorance.
