Re: school system
Right, I have finally managed to communicate enough to the kids to actually see what they can and can't access. They can run a LAN game, which means however that they only have access to the standard last-man-standing set up. If this is the minimal solution, can we make sure that the school versions...

Re: school system
Thanks guys. The term finishes in four weeks, not sure about introducing it in the last few weeks of term since I think they have a lot of Christmas activities lined up. If it was a standard school, then it would be perfect -- and indeed it would be the right time to challenge other schools. Things ...

Re: school system
Yup, the master server is not available, at least from the macosx build. Will you be able to check in to this in a couple of weeks, or is this problem non-resolvable? Thanks for the offer Delinquent. What will be needed at some stage is a permanent fortress server once we get the master set up. (I a...

Re: school system
Cool. I am getting some kids to download a standard version to see if that works.
What client version has the school-only master server?

Re: school system
The important questions to ask are: -Do the kids with their computers have general access to the Internet? Most of the kids have computers of their own and they have access to the internet. There are also a bunch of school computers and head of education is happy about downloading clients onto each...

school system
I've just got a job recently in a private international school. There seems to be more flexibility here and I have proposed that they set up a competition within the school with the potential for challenging nearby schools. The educational reason is that they play interhouse competitions, encouragin...

Re: some options for the community
My solutions never work, none of them, if we base them on the current conditions, on what we know, and try to increment slowly. They are always based on an ideal alternative system, and then to back track from there, step by step, from there to the current conditions. That is, the solutions are rela...

a call for ideal future conditions for a year from now
Like a call for papers in an academic conference -- a call for descriptions of an ideal situation for arma in a year's time. Adopt the methodology of a back-casting thought experiment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thought_experiment#Backcasting . Consider first what the ideal conditions may be in a ...

Re: Political Ideas
Never been interested in politics because it is such a rigged game. The advent of the internet has given us a taste of a different way of behaving, interacting, system-formation. Perhaps more significant than the formation of "companies" in the 19th century. As far as I know, nothing has y...

Re: some options for the community
Not a bad idea, compguygene. The problem with that is that we need to agree on who gets payment, and that could be tricky considering the efforts that everyone has put into the game. The desire to get a competition up and running was a gordion knot solution -- once money flow is stable, some part of...

some options for the community
1 I made a big song and dance earlier in the year, and I had hoped to seed a competition with some money. But things have not gone according to plan. I've wanted to generate the money and the system, but it just isn't happening. Even if I forwarded $1000 prize money (which isn't much per player when...

Re: Tron activity
good points by all but word's seems quite definitive 1) many people of my age are busy with their exams, or university (some even have to take care of a baby). that's why PRU is taking a nap. Most new players are 14 or older but I have a feeling that we young adults used to be the majority and most ...

Re: statement of unease
Just got a notification that this thread received a post, but can't see it. Serves to remind me to give an update, something I've been wanting to do over the past two weeks. I am not in a position to forward my proposal as I had hoped with some well-deserved cash, nevertheless I would still like to ...
