USB set up
I was thinking of some kind of minimal tech setup when I visit schools. Can I put the game on a USB and run it through that? I will be in different schools with different networks. I am thinking of carrying in a USB and running it through that, and enabling the school server. I've tried looking, but...

Re: In-Cam Defending
I'd take part in an incam game. Love it.

Re: incredible video!
hehe Yup, well edited, a good amount of work done on this, including choosing which players to follow throughout.
Been going through a few old videos, like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no52er1pgw8 Reminds me of the incam craziness we got up to, Pike.

I'm going back into education. I'd like to pick up where I left it, which was in 2008 when I introduced my classes to Fortress -- the results were incredible. It was the greatest proof of teamwork that I have witnessed in my decade of teaching. Before playing, I showed the kids a video of the game, ...

Re: Ladle Fortress 2014 (Discussion)
I'm returning to education in the new year, and I am glad to find the Tron community is still alive. Shows the depth of the game to have this level of commitment. The above discussion is valid, and I think Sinwav penetrated to the root of the problem -- getting new players. The gap between skilled a...

Re: school system
Thanks Delinquent. And z-man, and those who read and decided not to put in the boot. It was a bit of a TK situation, where the game-rounds are measures in years and not minutes. May have to wait a bit before the next opportunity turns up... Money is tight, but it always has been. I have never done w...

Re: school system
Some bad news. I am no longer working at the school. Looks like I pushed too hard. The meeting went well enough, with talk of developments in the new term, but I pitched something well beyond the scope of my job remit and two days later, I got an email saying I was no longer required. So, my ...

Re: school system
Thanks, I am meeting the head tomorrow and should set this up. They provide students with emails to the school site address, and this is integrated into gmail. Not sure if that helps. Also, still not sure how authentication will work when we invite another school to compete -- should the kids be tak...

Re: school system
Checked. "armagetron.kicks-ass.net" is the only DNS name we need unlocked, the existing build already uses just that. That would give us regular network play. "simamo.de" would be a nice bonus for a backup master. What that does not give us: automatic resource downloads (add &qu...

Re: school system
I'd like to, but my situation is not secure -- depend on the results with the kids. If things go well, I'll certainly recommend should the time and opportunity arise. Can't offer work, per se, but will pay for the first iteration of a simple data-base and ui. Have a look at http://ecosquared.info an...

Shall we hold on until we've checked it ourselves and you are happy with the address? Or shall I go ahead and give him the first two?

Re: school system
Luckily there is a more competent programmer in the school, otherwise this would be a dead duck in the water. We are discussing various options next week regarding coding. As for getting arma in the school, here's what the head has said internally: No I am not going to go having a long conversation ...

Re: school system
Funnily enoug, Delinquent, I have just been suggesting coding as a possible subject to study. Initial response is to start a code club, but I think students would benefit if they had it as part of the curriculum, given the overlap of math and english. Just now, kids are doing GCSE well below their m...

Re: school system
The school is in England, and I have passed on a link to this forum. The kids are from various countries, China, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, it's an international school. The kids are playing online games for hours, as far as I know. I think we only have to think about security if it st...
