Re: var/bans.txt symbolic link ?

Could you upload it to the resource manager? I have a feeling other server admins will find this incredibly useful. Nice work

Re: Ladle 116

I won't support Steam, so nope. The issue persisted on 0.2.8.3.4, though, most definitely. I'm aware of an odd issue with my machine, mind you. My processor will happily tell you it supports AVX2, depending on which library you use to ask it, when in actual fact it does not. I don't see how this wou...

Re: Authentication with unusual URLs

What, if anything, does Armagetron include in the header? If I can identify requests from Armagetron and allow only those to be processed over HTTP, I'll do that instead.

Authentication with unusual URLs

I'm building an easy-to-access auth service, and I've discovered what may be a bit of a bug. My URL (https://armathentication.vixen.international) is perfectly valid according to today's TLD standards, but isn't recognised by Armagetron. The other possibility I'm considering is that HTTPS is playing...

Re: Ladle 116

https://svwh.dl.sourceforge.net/project/armagetronad/stable/0.2.8.3.4/armagetronad-0.2.8.3.4.gcc.win32.exe is the version I have installed. https://download.armagetronad.org/staging/stable/0.2.9.0/armagetronad-0.2.9.0.gcc.win32.exe is the version of 0.2.9 I tried after 0.2.8 failed. The build I used...

Re: var/bans.txt symbolic link ?

You could still use that service, then. Check for recent modifications, and then echo the command to each running server.

Re: Ladle 116

Is it concievable that GCC might play a part? I'll try with the non-gcc version later.

Edit: Yep. Non-GCC version was completely stable. Which is odd, because the opposite is true when I'm actually playing.

Re: Ladle 116

I can't seem to watch these recordings. They start normally, but then drop to a screen stating that the connection is lost. It seems quite random, but always within the first few minutes. I also noticed timer hiccups, and this is on both 0.2.8.3.4 and 0.2.9.0.

Re: var/bans.txt symbolic link ?

I think a better option might be to write a service that checks the collection of banfiles across all servers, and writes any differences to the other files based on the file that was most recently modified. That would cover players being both banned and unbanned.

Re: Armagetron Discord

The browser version is even worse! Firefox has a bit of a slow memory leak, apparently, so after a while it ends up consuming almost three quarters of my available system memory - which I admit is low at 8Gb. Oh, and voice, video, audio and suchlike are simply unreliable. Same with Chrome, but I don...

Re: Armagetron Discord

Just gonna say this here rather than making a new thread. I hate the look&feel of Discord. It's a brilliant platform, but it feels like one of those horribly over-stimulating children's toys from the mid-00's. It's so busy and incredibly distracting. Yet, I'm relegated to it for the majority of my c...

Re: Old CTWF rotation script query

It's a bad idea to do anything permanent in powershell on Windows. You are far better off creating a helper service, or even just a small application, that runs in the background instead, using a framework that isn't dependent on the ever-changing Windows landscape. I despise Python, but it would su...

You could concievably create an extra role and assign it only to forum moderators, who would then be able to distinguish useful posts. Common users would be then unable to access this feature.

Re: Donations

Since we're not a huge community, could we not potentially look at sourcing a benefactor? It might sound like a horrid idea at first, but in reality a tron server needs next to no resources and can happily chug away on a machine built 15 years ago. Given that a single machine could host a number of ...

I used this in the past, and it's still used widely in various forms:
