Re: Ladle 116

Ah. Maybe that it did work reasonably well with 0.2.8.3.X was just a happy accident. We're building differently now, which mostly changed the Linux version I use for recording. I'll probably have to go back 0.2.8.3.5 for that, then.

Re: 0.4 on OpenBSD

Ah! Multithreading! My favorite kind of crashes. Got it reproduced in my VM. I'm thinking about redoing the whole stuff. We now have C++11 available, which allows for much kinder ways to handle background tasks. The existing code has to work with handcrafted objects and member functions; now we have...

Re: var/bans.txt symbolic link ?

Well, the servers don't use any kind of file locking when writing to files. So if they're shared, two servers may write to it simultaneously, which can't be good. Also, they definitely will only read information from that file on every restart, so bans will take a while to travel from one server to ...

Re: Armagetron ON Steam (2019) with steam direct

So, now I'm super nervous :) Tested both Linux and Windows, both worked for me; no settings reset, all configs loaded from where they were supposed to, server browser screenshots are identical pixel by pixel (except in those places where the text changed, obviously). Can you make a screenshot of the...

Re: Armagetron ON Steam (2019) with steam direct

What were you using previously? If it was the default Steam version (no beta branch) or a previous build from 'staging', neither a setting reset nor a browser style change is intentional.

Re: Armagetron ON Steam (2019) with steam direct

Hah, I just realized something. I can get the onboarding tweaks to Steam users with low risk WITHOUT a proper release process. In case of problems, I can always roll back easily. So I declared a current early build for 0.2.9.1 a release candidate (not a lie! It totally could be a release later. Unli...

Re: Armagetron ON Steam (2019) with steam direct

Saying that along with thinking 0.2.8 servers can still be used by 0.4 now makes me think, it's probably worthwhile to leave zones v2 in and get the other client facing items fixed, and the worry about getting the server side stuff into it. That is an excellent plan. Merge conflicts: Oh, they can b...

0.2.9.0.1 released

0.2.9.0 out! Well, the builds came out a couple of days ago, all that time in between was spent remembering how to make the various announcements. Forums are last, obviously. The consistent places to get this version are on the download site (which also has the "what's new" info), launchpad and sour...

Re: Seriously

Let me clarify what I really meant because my post does not do it justice. I mean official public servers! I don't have time to put anything significant up and deal with moderation and stuff. But I can certainly give any server an official blessing. We have default configurations distributed with t...

Re: Armagetron ON Steam (2019) with steam direct

I restate my intention to get 0.4 out. I agree, What will it take to get 0.4 out? My personal pain points: - Sound needs improvement, mostly the mixing. And for me there is a really big delay between a turn and the 'cik' sound. Could be the sound effect or too much buffering. - Console output and c...

Re: Armagetron ON Steam (2019) with steam direct

Thanks to all for hepling so far! Time for some stats. Impressions, visits and above all installations are not overwhelming, but well above the threshold where I consider the whole thing worthwhile. So far, about a week in, we had 489000 Impressions (that's how often people in principle had the chan...

Re: 0.2.9.0 release process: staging!

I'm against declaring one or the other the default. GCC and clang should equally be supported. Targetting multiple compilers (and actually testing them all) leads to better code, we've seen that. 0.2.9.0 is tagged and built! It currently waits in the staging area for deployment. Grab your build dire...
