Re: GLES Arma on Openpandoras

It's a pretty old model. It's advantage is the processing bandwidth. At default of 800mhz, there is still a surprisingly large amount of data that can be processed at any one time. ... It still struggles with 3d rendering a little, I reckon I can get full 3d at 25fps with a little tinkering. The gl...

Re: 0.2.8.3.2 released! (Plus, security issues.)

Latest binary release on Win8 hangs (probably master server down, but behaviour is absurd, freezes whole system). The wild binary alpha out there grabs mouse focus preventing alt-tab interactions, at least loads the server list (which means it's not a DOS???)

Re: GLES Arma on Openpandoras

19fps on my Desire Z o'c to 1,200 mhz. Running cm10.1 no less, but very responsive. And I have the advantage of a slide-out keyboard, it's almost like a miniature laptop. Online play over 4g next? :> Are you sure you got HW acceleration and not some mesa software rendering? The 4-5 was on software,...

Re: GLES Arma on Openpandoras

Thanks. Actually no code changes are needed (that's just how glshim works, yay!) but 4-5 fps is sadly a bit too low (tihs is on single core 600mhz cpu overclocked to 805, S4 with octa could be playable, though, not glibc environment, so it's not just 'make').

Re: How to make that game more popular?

To answer OP: Bring it to phones. GLES port will make every droid/ios/maemo/... user able to join. Of course pings will go high and might not be playable on tourneys, still would bring a lot new players (phone friendly servers could be a solution). Bounty posted for 50 euros at this time (http://tal...

GLES port - [bounty]

Thought will post it here as well. New year bounty - currently at 50 euros. Not that much but considering you can then post/port iPhone/android/maemo/openmoko/pandora/... app (all GLES only devices in fact) for a dollar... lots of possible income to come. Happy New Year! http://talk.maemo.org/showth...

Re: Ubuntu 11.10 and libprotobuf problem

Removed it afterwards, though you would be amazed how often symlinking like that works (especially on maemo, where you're stuck with certain version of libglib/libstdc++/etc..., as Nokia won't release the code to binary blobs). Thanks, make run made it work (though had ro remove doc directory as it ...

Ubuntu 11.10 and libprotobuf problem

After upgrading Ubuntu to 11.10 I wasn't able to run Arma. In xterm it was crying lack of libprotobuf.so.5 so I linked .7 and this is what I get now: [email protected]????????:/usr/lib$ sudo ln -s libprotobuf.so.7 libprotobuf.so.5 [email protected]????????:/usr/lib$ armagetronad libprotobuf FATAL google/protobuf/stubs/...

Re: How to make that game more popular?

Easiest way to make arma more popular: develop the game for other platforms. Finished GLES version could bring tens of thousand of new players in, maybe to stay. If mobile platforms get all +200 ping maybe some highping server setting would accomodate it and be popular (intercontinental play-like). ...

Re: 0.2.8.3.2 released! (Plus, security issues.)

GLES branch would assure every server is full. Sad for some to become chat channels, every mobile could potentially be a player. Voodoo's opengles port is very close. Two functions require rewrite. With touchscreen buttons for double/triple turns arma is perfect for mobiles.

Re: Armagetron to mobile

So glad to see work is still done in the gles2 branch. Though when compiling it (protobuf has to be removed from configure, same with freetype, false negatives on maemo) I still get stuck at ftgl. Doubt iphone/pad port will comple on maemo, they are still in phase of 'planning' android port. Could p...

Re: Armagetron to mobile

Sorry to revive this yet again, but while playing with tiles version of DCSS it turned out your GLES version was actually ported as GL (according to ldd), which considering software rendering is still impressive at ~10 fps. I tried to compile it once again using -lGLES_CM -lGLESv2 -lSDL_gles but sad...

Re: Armagetron to mobile

Sadly no luck on maemo forums. Not enough people know about GL->GLES it seems. Idea: How about Arma version with totally up-down version for mobiles (SDL and many mobiles can work) with one pixel per bike/wall, like the minimap in 0.3.x so the gameplay is preserved. It's all about gameplay and chall...
