I started digging, and I got about 40 feet down. Then the hole filled up with water. We use that new well to this day. Unless you can swim, you ain't getting far. And you gotta hold your breath a long time. Oh, and then you need a special heat resistant suit that can get through our molten core. I h...

Reminds me of the potato powered webserver.

Thanks for that link. I've been looking for some inexpensive microcomputer chips for other purposes than web servers (but now I want to make one dammit!) That particular chip looks like it comes from a decent family of devices.

what's mea culpea? It's basically means "I screwed up!", or "it's my fault". It's latin actually, but a phrase that is used in English. Latin phrases we also use in English include" Carpe Diem = Seize the Day, or Seize the Moment. Magna Cum Laude = With the Greatest Praise (for those who graduate w...

My old aptiva pos came with Norton on it, free updates for one year. After that year expired, I found that I could continue to manually update the definitions, so that's what I do. For my customers, I give them AVG if it's personal, or a single machine.

This reminds me of a completely irrational "discussion" I had about 20 years ago with a guy who insisted it was foolish to program in Assembler. He coded in machine language directly, and was proud of the fact he could write faster code, and could exploit processor functions that Assembler programme...

Do you have to say things like 'non-retarded'? If you were joking, then fine, but you don't strike me a the joking type.

And c supports both high level as well as low level programming. I guess it's really up to the programmer.

My play is better with .2.7.1. I don't have a supercomputer. So I don't get this thread anyway. But there is another issue. If anyone thinks that superior grinding is a great advantage would be mistaken. It is *one* aspect to the game. I don't win jousts by outgrinding usually (not with my 20 fps :)...

FTP is evil. It's insecure, perhaps the most insecure thing out there next to telnet. I am extremely close to removing it from my server entirely.

So I use SCP (or SFTP), which uses an SSH connection instead.

Here's an open source client. http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/index.php

Nice to see you Maj. What name are you playing with on pokerstars? I'm a big hold'em fanatic too, except I'm too poor to play for real money. (Or perhaps I should say I'm not good enough to play for real money!)

And have you tried out the new version of Armagetron Advanced?

My dsl modem is completely dumb. It has no router or nat. I have no way of accessing any of it's internal functions. It's got a big reset button, and that's as far as that baby wants me to go! :) My dsl modem is quite a few years old now, so it's possible they now issue modems with internal routers ...

I like how I can keep going, and know exactly where I might have died earlier if I didn't manage to survive. Before, I would often be unsure as to where or how I died. The way it is now is much more clear. It warps less, the explosion placement is accurate. My client not guessing is a very good thin...

I'm keeping this in layman's terms since I'll say the wrong thing if I start discussing classes and subnets. I've never cracked a book on that topic, and only have experience managing little class C subnets. Here, with a computer connected directly to the dsl modem, we get whatever IP we are assigne...

rc8 was less sticky than 5 (i think, I'm getting confused as to which is which) all of them have been pretty decent however. performance has improved in the area of cornering and tunneling. quite noticably. I didn't notice much difference in play between them otherwise. this is on a poor and tired o...

Around these parts you do need a router too hook up extra puters, as the isp won't let you have more than one IP unless you pay them extra bucks (if at all).
