i found out that disabling wall textures increases the fps by 20-50% Aha. There is no reason at all this should happen, ever since the early days of 3d cards, texturing has absolutely no speed penalty. I'd attempt a driver reinstallation at this point. Mipmapping is free on hardware but the bad loc...

I agree with what it says at the end of that article, that phosphor technology is so advanced (and becoming even more so) that they will be long lasting too.
