Re: On Perceived Strength of Defense
Korean Meta was further ahead of things strategically than any team I've personally played on. There were defensive and attacking concepts there I'm not sure any other team has ever used (maybe they have in past months, but seems like not judging from this thread, idk) and it felt like we were just ...

Re: Ladle format discussion
Think of the round robin as a 4 game match where you need to win 2 games to advance to the knockout stage (going 1W-3L might even be good enough depending)
I don't really understand your claim of how the format gives anyone an advantage (or how the old format did either)

Re: Ladle format discussion
Titan suggested after the b01 round robin that 1st place plays semi vs 4th, which makes sense and I will add to my suggestion post above

Re: Ladle format discussion
A format for a 5 team ladle:
Full round robin but best-of-1
Then best-of-3 semifinals with:
1st vs 4th
2nd vs 3rd
Head-to-head record breaks any ties

Re: Pickup Servers: Disconnects, Timeouts
CYCLE_SPEED_DECAY_ABOVE 9999 CYCLE_SPEED 0 CYCLE_RUBBER_TIME 999999 CYCLE_BRAKE_REFILL 0 This combination of settings would effectively freeze a game-state in real time. The player could then reconnect, and be respawned safely away from the action (in a sty+ct server at least) via the RESPAWN_PLAYE...

Re: Fortress Test Server
Currently testing a few maps in a server called "Pick/Ban Fort - Map Testing" The concept is that fortress could have a map pool of 5-7 maps, and for a b03 teams would have a pick/ban phase to choose which maps would get played. Each picked map would be played for one match in a b03. All m...

Re: Fortress Test Server
No, but thump and agility and kite let me hijack their fort server last night for 10 min while we had 4v4 going. I think it would be good in general to have a permanent fortress test server that's run kinda like a community garden, where multiple people can get access to test their settings. Ideally...

We just tested this a little, needs some work but the respawns felt fun. The short walls was a bit too much.

Re: Fortress Test Server
Looks like something like this got tested in a Ladle last year. How did it go? Anyway, I was thinking that I (and maybe all of us) probably have misunderstood holing. I/we were maybe biased because cutting came first and holing "ruined" that dynamic. But maybe that's just a false narrative...

Re: Player Ranking System Feasibility
I think having it implemented with pickup bot is a no-brainer, at least as a beginning. In terms of server-based ranking system, I briefly tried a while back but it never went anywhere partly for my not having the financial resources to execute the idea and for people objecting to a server that requ...

Re: A defense of a defense
There is logic to having "rounded" corners. I think two steps in the corner is too much, but one step is pretty clean. Basically the idea is that you want to have some speed breaks to conserve rubber and ultimately to conserve shrinking. Not all shrinking is equal, the corners you have a l...

Re: Fortress Test Server
you want shrinking to be at least as effective as holing. The tactics are at least equal, then defenders have to try to expand and not shrink as much and what you actually get is more cutting. The effectiveness of shrinking and the amount of cutting that happens are directly related because the defe...

Re: Fortress Test Server
random (and obviously nowadays useless) thoughts on what fort settings should have evolved into Part I Problems with current/last known settings a) Most effective tactics were not intuitive The best ways to attack in competitive fortress were holing and centering. Neither is necessarily intuitive, a...
