Re: Fortress Test Server

you want shrinking to be at least as effective as holing. The tactics are at least equal, then defenders have to try to expand and not shrink as much and what you actually get is more cutting. The effectiveness of shrinking and the amount of cutting that happens are directly related because the defe...

Re: Fortress Test Server

random (and obviously nowadays useless) thoughts on what fort settings should have evolved into Part I Problems with current/last known settings a) Most effective tactics were not intuitive The best ways to attack in competitive fortress were holing and centering. Neither is necessarily intuitive, a...

Re: This game ruined my brain

yeah this game really was pretty great it's amazing how much money I didn't spend on entertainment because of it. would like to play some games again. Maybe we can set up a weekly time? edit: I logged on at about 3pm EST today and played a tst pickup with cyclo, Krikio, Eber, and a couple other good...

Re: [TT] Tron Times: The State of Game 2016

That's kind of a lazy explanation. It's not really players' obligation to help inexperienced players. That type of effort and energy isn't sustainable. Helping every non-grinder who waltzes into casual fort makes the game unplayable. Expecting Ladle-finals caliber players to spend their playing time...

Re: [TT] Tron Times: The State of Game 2016

You make a lot of good points. In my opinion the peak of the game was when we had sumobar and pickup fort running simultaneously on an afternoon or evening. A large amount of casual play activity was driven by prestige-laden competitive events. The ability to hop on at any time of day and find a gam...

Re: 0.4 Cockpit Discussion

Cockpits don't make a real difference to gameplay, and those who think otherwise can always change theirs, so I think the goal here should just be something that looks good to a new player while being functional enough we aren't doing them a disservice. Sine's current iteration is great, and I'm sur...

Re: Official Servers

not really, I'm not talking about the decision to do armagoshdarn vs fortress/hr/racing w/e. I'm talking about the decision to have 3 rubber instead of 2.5 or cycle_speed 10 instead of 15, or cycle_accel 30 instead of 29, etc, etc, etc. Like I said, I've been consistently underwhelmed by armagoshdar...

Re: Too long; didn't read

nah, it's completely reasonable that not everything is for everyone to read. Spoiler tags allow for a detailed, long form discussion to go on in the very same threads that a concise, for-everyone-to-read discussion is happening. When you write something in a post, the implicit expectation is that pe...

Re: 0.2.8.3.3: Doing the old dance again. Final builds avail

could you add a text-tile to your recordings directory demarcating which client versions playback which recordings? Might be helpful for some people, especially when 0.4 becomes the stable version. Pre-Ladle 29 is 0.2.8.2.1, unless you go far enough back Ladle 29 onwards is 0.2.8.3.2 Ladle 92 onward...
