Armagetron Advanced Dedicated

Post by matthg96 »

Hi, I have started a clan and i would like to make a server that stays on 24/7. I have the aad and i have no clue how to use it. There are codes all over. I want a normal fort server or a sumo. HELP

:) Welcome to the forums.

Please take a look at the Armagetron Wiki, specifically, the Server Guide. Follow the instructions step-by-step. When you run into a problem, search these forums for the answer. Just about every known issue has been addressed here. If you still can't find the answer, come back and post in this thread (don't make a new one) and hopefully someone will be able to help you. Armagetron has no official support, and is a self-serve game. But if you make a good effort, usually someone will help you work around problems.

If you find this all too difficult, there are very cheap solutions to hosting. Companies like Lightfoot Hosting will do all the hard work for you, and the price is very reasonable.

An important prerequisite to a server that runs 24/7 is a computer that runs 24/7 without constant reboots or people rendering CGI movies on it, by the way. If you don't have such a thing already for other reasons, renting a server is actually the cheapest option.

Is there a way that I can get a server for free without having to pay at all?

Well, you could download the server and set it all up, but then you implicitly pay with work. And you get electricity/hardware costs from running a server, home connections aren't that great for hosting, etc. Not to say you shouldn't do it, but you get the picture.

A standard 'clan vanity' (by which I mean a server with some default or cloned configuration and just a customized name etc) server? I don't think so. If you have interesting ideas for unique servers, I guess The Server Pharm, if it's still run that way, may have a slot for you.

Side note: Besides these, I've also noticed a handful of "website vanity" servers coming up—totally unrelated to clans or Arma. Some come and go, but a few have been up for awhile.
