Ladle 16 - Betting Pool

Post by Lackadaisical »

I thought it would be funny to make a betting pool to see who has the best prediction skillzz.

So post your predictions in this topic (or pm them to me if you want to keep them secret), and after the ladle we'll see who is the BEST* of the people of who submitted their predictions.

Example entry:

Code: Select all

Quarter Finals:

TR vs CT
2 - 1

DS vs MC
0 - 2

X vs OT
0 - 2

WW vs KO
1 - 2

Semi Finals:

TR vs MC
2 - 1

OT vs KO
2 - 0

Finals:

TR vs OT
0 - 3
Two remarks:
  • The winners in the Quarter finals have to correspond with the teams in the Semis. (same goes for the Final)
  • All matches except for the Final will be best of three. The Final will be best of five.
Scoring:
Points will be awarded as follows:

For every correct semi finalist: 3 points
For every correct finalist: 5 points
For correct winner: 7 points

In case of a tie we will look at how good individual matches were predicted:

For every correct first-to-two match (quarter/semi finals): 1 point
For every correct first-to-three match (final): 2 points

* in predicting the outcome of ladle 16, not in tron or anything else

I kind of feel like this post is in poor taste. Also, it seems like a conflict of interest to bet on yourself. In the US, there are federal laws against such things in professional sports; not that I equate them with Arma. I'm just saying.

Er, you can bet for yourself. You can't bet against yourself and then throw the match.

Besides, there's no real money being gambled here, right? This is just people making predictions on how it'll go.

Elaborate please? I can see how in professional sports there can be a conflict of interest where one might sabotage a game to win a bet because the reward of winning the bet can be larger than winning a game. But I don't think there's anyone out there willing to lose just so he can hear me say "congratulations! you made the most accurate prediction!".

It's difficult to give an accurate forcast, since usually a lot of players fail to turn up for one reason or another. If one or two of a teams' strongest players are among those who don't show the team is quite conserably weaker.

This is one way it might go. Hey, You have to be optimistic :)

Code: Select all

Quarter Finals:

TR vs CT
1 - 2

DS vs MC
0 - 2

X vs OT
2 - 1

WW vs KOz

Semi Finals:

CT vs MC
2 - 0

X vs KOz
1 - 2

Finals:

CT vs KOz
3 -1

hehehehe, ok optimism and unrealism ftw!

Code: Select all

Quarter finals:
TR 2 - 1 CT
DS 1 - 2 MC
 X 2 - 1 OT
WW 0 - 2 KOz
Semi finals:
TR 1 - 2 MC (oooops!)
 X 1 - 2 KOz
Finals:
MC 3 - 2 KOz
of course that will happen even with madmax not showing up :P

In my opinion, matches that are great are those which you don't know the outcome in advance¹.
You can guess from my reasoning that betting on the outcome of matches makes it totally boring :)

So, instead, here are my expectations on interesting matches²:

Code: Select all

Quarter Finals:

DS vs MC

X vs OT

Semi Finals(from possible outcomes from quarters):

1st group:
DS vs MC
MC vs TR

2nd group:

KOz vs ¦×¦
KOz vs OT (whut?? ¦×¦ culd luuse??)

Finals:

my preferred would be ¦×¦ vs MC ( well yes, I want )
or DS ( to play too :P )
otherwise, any winner pair from the matches I cited should make a good match :)
I hope the match I expect to be boring won't be boring, that said :) Have some good games!

Notes:
¹ except for those with a team/both teams camping the whole match, of course
² I'm talking here about the unsureness of the outcome, not of the gameplay...oh well..

Sorry about my previous post. I was in a bad mood. That was very immature of me and I'm embarrassed. Please forgive me. Although there is one bet I would make, and that is Ww not making the Ladle. I have a feeling their team is going to fall apart this week. There may be an open team slot. At least, that's my predication.
