andi75,
Have you heard of them whacha-ma-call 'em... projector?
;)
Cool set-up. I recall seeing it somewhere before, could it be an university project that might have been advertised on slashdot?
In any way, it is still very very cool.
Now you have to either put the latest trunk on your cluster and use a custom map with many flashy zones, or show us a game in the deep of the action (like a fortress 12+ players).
Care to turn on the fps display? I would really like to have a reference picture where the fps is clearly visible. Next time someone try to claim his worth based on the hardware they bought, I would refer to said picture with the following notice (I'm writing it now so I can simply cut-and-paste it later). I have build up a bit of anger due to previous experience, but do not feel any of this aimed at you. That said, I'd really like to know the fps and the total resolution of the rig.
"Dear consumer of high grade graphic hardware,
The bar as been set at XXX FPS, on a total resolution of XXX by XXX pixels. Unless you exceed _all_ of these parameters, bragging about your particular set-up brings little to the general community.
Armagetron Advance, by its open source nature, tend to cater to a wide clientele much of which has aging hardware. As the quality of the experience is pretty much a given thing for any high end hardware user, we tend to focus our energies into helping low end hardware user. Unless you have the capacity to help us, by guiding them to set-up their computer to make the best use of its resources, by having someone improve the performance of our code-base, by providing better hardware to those who need it or any other fashion you see as appropriate, then the actual zooming performance of your own installation is as relevant to us as the performance of the depicted system, i.e: Cool to know for the geek factor, but otherwise pretty useless as most of us do not get access to that rid.
I hope to see you around, on the forum, on the wiki, chatting on IRC or giving us a nice challenge on the grid, sincerely
Philippe"
Now, should you notice someone starting some variation on the "I'm better than you due to my faster performing hardware", you are allowed to post this text in my name. Simply block quote me, and mention that I have authorized anyone to respond for me. Or just write up your own.

Terrible resolution. 4000 viewing distance/pixel pitch (roughly how I'm typing this now) is bad enough, let alone what is typically achieved with a projector. If you have to pay with bezels (and a lot of money…), so be it.philippeqc wrote:Have you heard of them whacha-ma-call 'em... projector?

The truth revealed
Ok ok...Here's the truth about the picture
- The resolution is 6400x3600
- I don't know the FPS, but apparently it's smooth
- It's not running Armagetron, but GLtron
- It's not my rig, Pablo Veramendi sent me the picture
- It's done using Chromium, which splits the OpenGL command stream and sends it to multiple servers
- It's ~1.5 years old
