When I first started playing Armagetron, I read through all the config files and set up a server. I was new to it, and had no idea what holing was (still don't, actually… v.v ), and since the description for SCORE_HOLE was “What you get for making a hole for your teammates” I thought it was simply coredumping a teammate.
Apparently that's not the case.
So my questions are, what is holing, and is there a way to set a penalty for coredumping a teammate?
SCORE_HOLE (and holing in general)
Re: SCORE_HOLE (and holing in general)
If im right, holing is making a hole in the enemy's defence (like in ctf or fortress) So other teammates can use that hole to get the flag or capture the fortress zone.
I dont know how to set the teamkill score. I never needed it, but i would like to know to

'teamkill'? You might be onto something. I'll try SCORE_TEAMKILL and all the variations on it.snake wrote:I dont know how to set the teamkill score.
Oh, and maybe look through the source code. Why didn't I think of that? XD

Re: SCORE_HOLE (and holing in general)
To be a bit more exact: you get SCORE_HOLE points when you create a hole in an enemy's wall (by dying) and when your teammate goes through that hole.
Getting points for just making a hole would a bit silly, since that happens every time you get killed
The term 'holing' is pretty specific to zone based play (ctf/fortress) where it is the act of using a hole (made (un-)intentionally) in the defenders tail to get access to the zone. When intentional holing became more popular SCORE_HOLE was implemented to encourage/discourage/balance holing.

And the statement that holes are part of the game and that it is no taboo to use them tactically.
No, I don't think there is a specific score for team kills, they are always point neutral because detection can be wonky at times. They are logged in ladderlog.txt, though, so you could react on them in scripts.
