cpu temperature

Post by Majination »

I was wondering if anyone knows the "normal" operating temperature of an AMD XP 2800+... My hardware monitor has shown 55C but my motherboard's Anti-Burn Regulator is set at 85C.

I need to figure what the heck is making my computer shut off all by itself. It's not malware, and my antivirus doesn't detect anything either. I thought maybe bad memory, because the system has been hanging, too. The problem mostly sounds like overheating to me, though.

Any ideas?

P.S. - I don't remember what the ABR actually *does*... I'll look it up in the manual in a bit, swamped in homework after a two hour 'getron fix. ;)

Sounds like overheating to me too... I've had computers randomly shut off like that too.

not to directly answer your Q, but for broad diagnosis/benchmarking of all your hardware, sisoft sandra (free) is your friend. offers useful suggestions, too, for these situations:
