I'm sure this is not just me, but I have noticed something different with the smart camera. Has anything changed from 2.8-Beta4 to 2.8-Beta4.2, because it sure seems like it.

The difference seems to be really only the camera moving faster than it did in beta4.[0-1].

@lucifer: wiki is down :>

@hang3r:
http://forums.armagetronad.net/viewtopi ... 3876#33876

Change your user.cfg for now and replace/add the following line:

Code: Select all

CAMERA_SMART_GLANCE_CUSTOM 1
Windows location: C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Applications\Armagetron\var\user.cfg
Linux: ~/.armagetronad/var/user.cfg
Mac OS X: Home/Library/ApplicationData/ArmagetronAd/var/user.cfg

might vary a bit ...

The next beta/RC will have an option for this in the player's camera settings.
EDIT: Did anyone start to summarize the changes ? I'd put this one in the 0.2.8 FAQ ;). A post with a link should also be a sticky in Support or Development.

Thanks Joda, unfortunately that’s not what I am referring to. The smart camera just seems a little faster than what it was back in pre beta4.2, anyway, it must be just me...

No, it's not just you. There were some changes to what the smart camera does when it finds itself in front of your cycle, and the way glancing blends the positions has changed. I can't say when they were introduced. Your_mom noticed it, too, some pages back. We can revert the changes if the general feeling is that they're bad. My vote goes for "not bad", of course :)

I like the smartcam better now. :) It seems to mostly show me what I need to be looking at, within reason. The glance keys are to make up for the rest, of course. :)

Aha :idea:

So I am not going crazy...

I don’t mind the new feel of the smart camera at all. It will just take some getting used to. :)

Post by Angel »

Hi z-man, first i owe you a huge apology, i haven't been playing much recently and diddn't even realise there was another beta release, after reading this thread, i saw your message asking me to do a test, and i am so sorry i diddn't see the message until now :(

Are there any tests you would like or need me to do, if so, i will be happy to do them.

Again, sorry for the lateness of this reply :oops:

Never mind, I forgot about it in the meantime :) And now we have rc2 already :) You can grab it from http://beta.armagetronad.net or SourceForge, I'd be glad about a "does not crash immideately for me" message.

An maybe you want to contribute to the new textures thread here?

Hi Z-Man :)

I downloaded the following beta versions from http://www.armagetronad.net/downloads/beta.php, both would not start and generated the following error

# x86 Windows (exe) (note: compiled with gcc)

# x86 Windows (exe) (note: compiled with vc6)

If i am posting this in the wrong place, apologies in advance :)

It's the right place, but that's the error you already helped to fix :) We're on release candidate 3 now, available from beta.armagetronad.net. Simply get the latest for Windows.
I'll go and remind Tank to update the beta page.
