Forum Suggestion
Instead of just a few moderators, I would like to see a post rating system on these forums (not sure if that's the right term).
All users can give + or - 1 to posts (obviously a + to helpful posts and a - to unhelpful posts), users are not forced to give every post a rating (obviously).
Posts that go below a certain rating are not displayed by default and to see the post, users have to manually click "see this post" (or something like that).
An example of what I am talking about can be found here: http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/sh ... p?t=362058
I'm not sure if this kind of system could be implemented on this forums, but I think it would be a great system. Even with the amount of "trolling" that goes with a larger online community it seems to work quite well.

Re: Forum Suggestion
youtube did the same thing and with some adjustments along with the highest rated comments thing it became A much better community I think such A system would do as much good if implemented here too!
Re: Forum Suggestion
Ok, the system still works. Clearly the majority of the voting community feels that that post was either helpful or positive.

Re: Forum Suggestion
actualy now that I think of it the most idiotic comments would get the highest ratings justin bieber jokes thumbs up nao comments stuff like that
Re: Forum Suggestion
Well, that CAN happen, but the point would be so that posts that are clearly uncalled for or unappreciated will receive down votes and if enough people believe it is an unworthy post, it will not show up.

Re: Forum Suggestion
Such a system works well in large, anonymous crowd communities like YouTube (and even there, you say it *improved* the comment quality? Wow, I don't want to know how it was before) and slashdot. Here? Probably not so much. You know person X is going to vote down ALL of person Y's posts.

Where did I say it improved the comment quality? Where did I mention Youtube?Z-Man wrote:(and even there, you say it *improved* the comment quality? The person x voting down all of person y's posts may be the initial reaction to the implementation of this system, but I think people will get over themselves and either use the system responsibly (I would hope, at least) or not bother to use it at all.

Re: Forum Suggestion
Oh, right, League of Legends. Yeah. Where I can see such a system succeeding in any environment is that it cuts down on spammy responses (u suck! ur n idiot! STFU!) and replaces them by minus votes. I guess it can't hurt to try. There are several plugins readily available, I guess, google finds a couple. Go research!
Re: Forum Suggestion
Seems like there are already enough tools here to manage your user experience.
Re: Forum Suggestion
Tools that require the user to go out of their way (even if it is just a few clicks) and go unused, just like the tools ingame (mainly referring to the silence menu).

Re: Forum Suggestion
Doesn't your suggestion require a few clicks? I know I never used that youtube feature because I really don't see any purpose for it.
Re: Forum Suggestion
Well, on the League of Legends forums, the + and - buttons are right on each post (adding someone to your foes list requires you going to the person's profile (and that is enough for most people to not use the feature)).

Re: Forum Suggestion
I think I would prefer an enemy/friend button next to everyones name in a thread. I could see how a 'thanks' or '+1' button would be nice to have, so you can show your support without having to post an unnecessary post. -1 buttons just don't seem very constructive.
