Agreed. I'm sad that I'm over two weeks late to this flame war. I would've loved to help drag it on for another three pages!

Here, I'll still give it a shot:

LittleSteps: what if we all took a CTF server and named it "Team Dogfight" and told everyone on both teams not to capture the flag because it's against the "rules." Do you see how idiotic that is? Do you see why new players would be like "what the **** is wrong with you, why can't I just play the game?" Why not just make a server that doesn't have the damn flag in the first place.

That's why Dogfight is a shithole.

Ratchet is just mad because no one plays CTFS anymore.

Just kidding, man! You were super good at that game.

For that to be a fair comparison, His rule would have had to have been "don't core dump another player", which it was not.

To me, closing is the same kind'a rudeness/annoyance as ganking, or holing in fortress.
If there were a fort server (maybe there is, not sure)with:
No Ganking.
No Holing.
Would you think those rules are equally as stupid as No closing?
This is a fair comparison.

You guys noticed that vov made the thread obsolete from page 2 onwards (the rest is just mindless bickering), right?

Since i'm posting here again: Convict, I actually thought you'd be embarrassed to be in the same boat with that guy after his last post, but no (and since I write again here, you also got my "logic" wrong. That my opinion is the only valid one wasn't the point of the bread metaphor, rather that what a perceived majority does is no argument for something being correct, for example Germany 1933-45. The "no shit" was a short way of saying "of course I think I'm right, otherwise there's no reason to defend an opinion" - but hey, you probably still think that's a totally fascist mindset and your, uh, unfounded assumption is just as valid).

Yeah, sort'a, but it's not really him I'm sticking up for, it's my view on the subject.

Edit: (cuz you added stuff)
No closing Vs Genocide... Are we going there?
I guess you'd have to pretend not to agree with vast majorities when you're a fotze.

The game is dead and we still argue about these things?

Well, I gank and hole. Especially in Ladle.

So, I think that's a pretty fair comparison. I think both sets of "rules" are stupid.

Ha! Don't pick on me! I scared them all away!

Nah, I'm glad no one plays it. It's a crappy game mode. The group of people who played is what made it fun.

Im reasonably sure his point had nothing to do with that. Some might even call it a pointed joke. Blunt force trauma seems required to make you giggle though.

There is no 'serious' fortress server that enforces those rules arbitrarily. More importantly, it's possible to enforce those rules through server settings if the owner wished to do so.

Yes, I was going to add that but I thought it pointless since the debate still went on after it was said that "No Closing" can be enforced with settings...

Besides, when it comes to holling and closing, there's a downside for people if I don't eradicate them with settings...
Holing: They could also hole their own def.
Closing: You know how many times I've closed myself in attempting to close another player? More than half the time.

Another reason I don't like to actually stop it with settings is because I think trying not to close when you can close, produces skillful players / encourages practice.
I don't know about you but I don't know one player that always closes and has skill...

Up there is "/dev/null" for example.
/dev/null has absolutely no skill in double/triple binding whatsoever.
Reason being: He's never actually practiced any play style apart from run-close-run-close-rim-run-close-run-rim
(no offence GSV meatf**ker, it's just a fact)
Players like him are why I invented the map "Deadly Rim", which is just your basic square map with deathzones just slightly poking out all along the rim (so close it's almost a perfect line).

Anyway, last post on this for me, I think I've said where I stand on this enough as it is lol.

Holing is good too for the spectators so we can enjoy CT's holing :)
