Changing the port range?

Post by Bread »

Hey I have port blocks at my school *sigh* and major ports like 22, 23, 80 etc and other main ones, however are open. I was wondering if I would be able to change what the clients min/max ports could be to allow games to be played on port 22. If anyone has any advice it'd be highly appreciated.

Regards,

It's possible, right in the network setup. But won't be useful. The open ports are probably open for TCP only, we use UDP, and the changes will not affect remote ports, so you wouldn't be able to connect to any internet servers.

Thanks for the info, however I tried to scroll the number for the port down to a number in which I could use but it decided to stop somewhere in the 3,000s. Is it just me? Or what?

And to respond to the school comment, It's senior year and there's about 5 days of school left, so no learning is going on : P

Oh yeah, it stops at 1024, because of the third reason this wouldn't work anyway which I forgot to tell you about: ports below 1024 are reserved for system services. Regular users can't open them. Could be that this only applies to Unix, though.

Anyway, you can totally work around that limit my messing with the config files and not entering the network setup menu again to see where it takes you.
