Tron and Windows 7

Post by XzL.Smart »

If there is already a topic on this, I' sorry. I did search, but came up with no results.

Armagetron sucks on windows 7(or my computer).

I have tried the latest stable release, the latest 0.3.0, and this version http://forums3.armagetronad.net/viewtop ... 03#p221203.

I have played the game on windows 7(32 bit and 64 bit. Armagetron is very laggy on both of these), Windows xp(32 and 64. Tron runs the best on this out of all that i tried) and ubuntu 10.10 or something like that.

I'm just wondering if there is a fix, or one in progress.

Thanks
-Smart

Edit: I have fully upgraded drivers.

That may not be enough; you need fully up to date drivers directly from your GPU manufacturer with proper OpenGL support. What's your GPU?

Edit: Disabling Aero sometimes helps.

For me the latest 0.3 is also very "laggy" in windows 7. I wrote "laggy" because its not really network lag but a weird feeling of game play. it shows me ~70 fps but it feels like 15.
Anyway, it works very good for me with 0.2.8.3.1 <- try this one.

Toy around with the "Swap Mode" in the "Performance Tweaks" submenu of the graphical settings, 'Finish' may just get rid of the lag.

I installed opengl, and it was better, but not great. Then i turned off areo, and it was a lot better, but still not as good as it was on windows xp.

Gpu: nvidia geforce gt 220
On my other computer: Ati radeon hd 2870

I didn't notice any change here for my NVidia card, whatever I had at the time I got 7 (the 7800, probably). Maybe other settings are just different? vsync (in the driver control panel) can have a huge impact on perceived performance, for example.

I think the problem may be in the network, because my ping is always high. But when I play in other games, my ping is always 100-150 lower.
