Shuffle spam

Post by Your_mom »

Recently i noticed people in cafe/other fort servers using instant chat shuffle keys to spam. ie

Code: Select all

Player 1 shuffles to pos 4
Player 1 shuffles to pos 5
Player 1 shuffles to pos 4
Player 1 shuffles to pos 5
etc

Any way to deter this? I would still like to see when someone shuffles, however i'm just as ready to just ignore all automated shuffling related info.

Looks like /teamshuffle and /shuffle don't get spam-checked. Oops :)

Another potential problem: when a user logins using auth their full username is printed to the console. A 1000-character username really spams chat…

Ah, yes, I remember dlh testing this...it was something like:

Code: Select all

free kill as been logged in as AAAAAAAAAAAA[...]AAAAAAAA@generalconsumption.org

2 possible solutions:

1- send the shuffling messages only to shuffler's teammates
pro: spamming reduced
con: opponents won't notice, teammates still might get spammed

2- send the shuffling messages only when shuffling takes effect (I guess between "Deleting grid" and "Creating grid" )
pro: no spamming, opponent will notice
con: if someone steals your pos you can't take it back

perhaps a mixture of both solutions may work fine

regarding this, I was thinking about a way to make arma messages more clear
how about splitting the screen in 2 columns?
left column only for chat msgs, right column for the rest

I know this requires further thinking, I just wished to give an input

We could put a per-round, per player limit on the number of shuffle messages displayed. With the last one reading '... Further shuffle messages will be suppressed." Sounds like the easiest thing to do.

i would really prefer to have the option to see "shuffle spam" of my teammates. I do have /myteam set as an insta to verify my teams positions, but many times i just keep track of things in my head by following "shuffle spam"
