Arma on steam?

Post by nux »

Since Valve said they are porting Steam to Linux, wouldnt this be a good chance to get (almost) free advertisement and get Arma on the Steam wagon? (pun not intended, but i like it now). It wouldnt hurt us to have a few new players.

Do you think tron would be able to handle a massive influx of users on the master servers? Also, I dont think the menu and gameplay is noob friendly enough to go that mainstream...

The Master Server can handle it. Right now there are more empty servers than active players. And you don't give people enough credit. The game isn't that hard to figure out, just look at some of the idiots that play it now.

Absolutely, they can handle the high traffic, and if they cant, building up new master servers is not complicated. More people, more donations, more we can afford. Funny how you mention the menu not being friendly, i dont see anything wrong with it, im even considering you are trolling just for that. Gameplay might be a little hard to figure out with all the modes available and all these stupid rules for each, but we have those tutorials now (im sure 0.4 will be stable before Valve actually ports Steam, right guise? guise you there? guise?); but, have you seen some of the games out there?

IDK... I've always hated the menu.

Well unless we sell lightcycle hats, there isn't much room for free games on steam.

Sweet rims! Oooh, and you can turn hats easily into rims!

No, really, I don't think Steam has room for pure freeware games. They're all monetized somehow, right? With the possible exception of that alien coop shooter thing.

There are actually quite a few freebies on Steam right now. A couple that come to mind are the alien shooter z-man mentioned (alien assault maybe? Can't remember) and someone told me that they made Team Fortress 2 free as well. The only thing would be how many people actually stick with it. Depending on where you go, armagetron isn't really a "pick up and play" kind of game. Steam overlay would be cool with tron though, no more alt tabbing every few seconds to check messages.

Alsothis, just because.

Well as you point out, they have all their virtual hat business behind it.

Well, we got the "experience" stuff to direct newer players towards simpler servers. On those it is pretty easy to pick up what to do. Plus we've got the tutorials.

Add armagetron as a non-steam game and start it from there. It should give you the overlay.

I think Raptr has added arma to their coffers, probably because I added it as one of my games. It's not exactly the same kind of principle as steam though, you can't get games from the client. It's more like a usage monitor. http://www.raptr.com

Only because of all the stupid button mashing and made-up game rules and superfluous, irrelevant/unrelated/unconnected "special game modes" you kids love so much. It's your own fault.
