Bounty? In-game voice chat

Post by Luke-Jr »

I'm not actually planning to do this, but if there's enough interest, who knows... Please vote on *both* bounties if they both interest you (remember nobody is committing to anything at this time).

One question regarding the voice chat:

Can't you just add a command like /join_ts which will make the client join the ts-server which is given by the server.
You would have to add 2 new settings for servers which could be "TS_VERSION" and "TS_SERVER_ADDRESS" for example.

dunno whether that's possible or not , but it sound way easier to me 8)

I would be cool if you could silence/mute users in the tron server's ts server through commands given on armagetron...such as /admints mute <name>. IDK if thats possible as well but sounds cool.

If we ever bundle voicechat support, it's certainly not gonna be TS anyway.

As epsy said, Teamspeak sucks and wouldn't be involved in this in any case...

As a practical matter, for Armagetron to use TeamSpeak3, which doesn't suck, they would have to do 2 things that just aren't going to happen. Use proprietary software, and pay several thousand dollars for a System Development Kit. TeamSpeak3 does include many of the nice features mumble has had all along, but it is really not compatible, in terms of license and philosophy with Open Source Development. For those of you who haven't been around long enough to know this, the Developers here have messed with mumble, and see it as a viable solution! However, there are more pressing concerns at the moment to get the next stable version of Armagetron, .4, out there.

Your forgot copyright infringement. Also known as "piracy" or "warez". Even if we licensed the TS3 SDK, we would be "pirating" from all the other Armagetron developers to integrate it.

Aren't there any Open Source C++ voice chat libraries?
