Tron Poll
I'm working on a school project and I'm my group needs to conduct a survey. Our project is related to armagetron. So I would like to ask you to fill out my survey. It contains 5 simple questions. Please answer the questions honestly. You can fill out the survey at this location http://crazy-tronners.com/kyle/survey/ I do intend to post the results that i get from this as soon as we analyze the data. Thanks for your time and help.

Re: Tron Poll
Use 'Dogfight' as any last-man-standing server, correct? And I wanted to pick '6' for best number of players but couldn't. What about 1v1?
Re: Tron Poll
I just put LMS and FFA in the "other" section as i wasn't sure about that either.sinewav wrote:Use 'Dogfight' as any last-man-standing server, correct?
What is the project for school about if you don't mind me asking?
You've gone too far, turn back!

Re: Tron Poll
that should be ok, dogfight is more of less a last man standing typesinewav wrote:Use 'Dogfight' as any last-man-standing server, correct?

I'll just make yours and those like your that moved to dogfight.Van-hayes wrote:I just put LMS and FFA in the "other" section as i wasn't sure about that either.
I'll answer that when I close the survey. Probably be open through Saturday.Van-hayes wrote:What is the project for school about if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Tron Poll
I said 8, but really I prefer even fewer for a competition I think.
I also read his thread title as "Tron Paul." Too much XKCD.

Re: Tron Poll
I reject this survey on the premise of the "game modes" section, especially with respect to "dogfight" and "rubber."

For prefered players, I chose 128 (or whatever the massive number was); I always enjoy more and more people, even though more than 20 always seems to make the lag explode; can any server actually host that many players?

Re: Tron Poll
I should point out that I was a bit disappointed not to see a plain LMS/Classic game mode on the list. I put down DF instead as suggested, but in my book it's really not the same thing.

Re: Tron Poll
I agree. I think some of the most challenging servers are Last Man standing servers, that have very fine-tuned physics. Of course, since I am making several unique ones for TR2NOrigins, I am kinda biased about the art in making unique physics.Tank Program wrote:I should point out that I was a bit disappointed not to see a plain LMS/Classic game mode on the list. Re: Tron Poll
This is what I'm saying. As far as I know, "dogfight" means "open," and I certainly want nothing to do with that. And what the hell is "rubber" as a gamemode? (http://forums3.armagetronad.net/viewtop ... f=2&t=6251 — never really resolved) There's the "Other" option, but I'd want clarification on the above, first.
Mind you, when folks call here asking me to participate in a survey (and I do like taking surveys), I usually give them a hard time over their questions and answers/options, too.

Re: Tron Poll
well, rubber was more of less meant to be mid to high rubber.Phytotron wrote:Mind you, when folks call here asking me to participate in a survey (and I do like taking surveys), I usually give them a hard time over their questions and answers/options, too.
You also need to remember it's hard to specify all the game modes.
If you truly want to, I'd wipe (well move) the data and restart it if you gave me some more game modes. (I've found i did not test one of the questions good enough and it did not work, despite that i do think i have enough data for what my school project needs)
on one hand I would like to have good data just for the community too, but on the other i know i should have what i need for my school project. I would redo it for the community if they want it redone, maybe with more questions too.
but would people be wiling to retake it?

Re: Tron Poll
It's only been up a day; I doubt anyone would mind retaking it.
What I would suggest, regarding what you've already got there:
- Add some lower player numbers (and perhaps remove the top couple). Of course, this question is complicated by what sort of game one plays. (You may also want to better phrase it, as it could be read as meaning how many players are competition for you.)
- Specify 'Dogfight' as "playing open"
- Add "Last [Player/Team] Standing / Free For All (regardless of rubber amount)"
- Remove "Rubber"
- Add "Lower rubber (0-5)" & "High rubber (5+)"
Of course, as you noted, it's tough to specify as there are so many configuration options, and one could keep adding options: Turn bindings; Brakes or no; finite or infinite tails; low/moderate- or high- speed; normal or miniscule cycle delay; win, death, or no zone; scoring types preferred; score limit or round limit; etc. And I don't consider any of these insignificant distinctions. So, it's up to you how detailed—and accurate—you want it to be.
By the way, as Jonathan alluded to, there was no Armagetron for Mac OS 7/8/9.
